Volunteer as an Artist with The Art of Elysium
Artists volunteer. We support our artists. Through service, our creative communities thrive. Since 1997, The Art of Elysium has paired volunteer artists with communities across Los Angeles to support people facing illness, hospitalization, displacement, confinement or crisis. Today we offer 110 community programs a month, and have served 9,000+ community members and artists, with 16,745 program volunteer hours.
Who you will serve
Our volunteer artists work with medically fragile children, teens, adults and seniors, with people dealing with social, emotional and mental health issues, and with people experiencing homelessness. Our team works with every volunteer artist to craft creative, tailor-made programs for the populations we serve.
Ways to volunteer
We offer community service programs in Fashion & Design, Film & Theatre, Music & Movement and Visual Arts, along with our Arts Based Self-Esteem program. Artists work with our program directors in their field to develop a new program or plug into an existing one. Explore our programs.
What our programs are designed to do
Each program supports people through difficult emotional challenges related to illness, hospitalization, displacement, elder care, hospice or crisis. Programs encourage socialization and self-expression, promote growth and development, and inspire artists to use their creativity in service while giving emerging artists opportunities to showcase their craft.
How to get started
All volunteers must be 18 years old. Every volunteer artist begins with a one-time mandatory Volunteer Artist Orientation, held on Zoom, which prepares artists to work with the communities we serve. To RSVP, contact Leslie Culp, Vice President of Programs, at lculp@theartofelysium.org.
Support for volunteer artists
Volunteer artists are eligible for artist support services, ranging from artist salons and networking events to showcases and distribution opportunities. We currently serve 2,510 artists a year in Los Angeles. Learn about Artist Services.
